The Titanic sinking in 1912 with some important financial / banking people aboard who opposed the creation of the Federal Reserve, may have had something to do with it. In 1919 the city of Enterprise, Alabama erected a monument to the Boll weevil, which is a destructive insect that decimated cotton crops in #TheSouth which forced the local farmers to diversify their crops to include peanuts which proved to be more profitable to them than cotton.
