I never thought I would see the day when I agree with @sluggo but he is absolutely correct here.

This filing of chargers is serious erosion of free speech protections guaranteed to us by the 1st amendment.

If we keep going in this direction we will be in similar straights as the #UK where British citizens are arrested for verbally offending migrant criminals who violently attack them, or for simply posting things on #SocialMedia that are critical of immigrants.

I like that word "Enshittification" it is so descriptive of the state of our culture, our society and our country in recent years.

@tex I don't think it is that clear. The way this bill is written (poorly), it also affects U.S. Citizens and entities.

Look at section 11:

"SEC. 11. PENALTIES.
(a) U A.—
(1) IN GENERAL.—It shall be unlawful for a person to violate, attempt to violate,
conspire to violate, or cause a violation of any regulation, order, direction, mitigation
measure, prohibition, or other authorization or directive issued under this Act, including
any of the unlawful acts described in paragraph (2)."

So...

Theoretically if someone in some other country downloads a TikTok video in their country, where accessing TikTok is not illegal on this proposed legislation, and then uploads it here to twpter.com we could be held liable for violation of this law, because the user (in the government's opinion) used our social media platform to evade the prohibition on info coming from TikTok

Also, what about tracking code snippets? How can the government track where all that meta data is going and who has access to it offline?
