People just had different ideas about raising children in the 70's & 80's

Sure.... Stupid things were done by some, and they payed the price, but we as a community all learned from those stupid mistakes. We lived our lives much more freely than kids today, and we learned how to evaluate and mitigate risk, unlike today's kids who are afraid to do anything that requires their own judgement.

And NO, we didn't get "Participation trophies", if you wanted recognition you had to excel and be better than your competition, or find something you were good at, these are lessons we took with us into adulthood, and that is why Gen-X got ahead, and why "millennials" are a bunch of whining, panty waste, "Soy boys" and Karens that need #DEI and "safe spaces".
